Un terroir d’exception : les secrets du vignoble de Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Specific geography and climate
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine region enjoys a privileged geographical location. Nestled between Avignon and Orange, it covers some 3,200 hectares. The Mediterranean climate, characterised by hot, dry summers and a powerful Mistral wind, plays an essential role in the quality of the wines. The low rainfall ensures that the grapes ripen to perfection, producing rich, complex wines.
Pebbles and their unique role in viticulture
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards is the presence of galets roulés, the rounded stones that cover the soil. They store heat during the day and release it to the vines at night, helping the grapes to ripen evenly. This exceptional terroir gives the wines a powerful structure and a unique range of aromas, renowned the world over.
The art of winemaking: specific characteristics of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines
Emblematic grape varieties and characteristics of red and white wines
Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are made from a blend of 13 authorised grape varieties: grenache, syrah, mourvèdre, picpoul, terret noir, counoise, muscardin, vaccarèse, picardan, cinsault, clairette, roussane and bourboulenc, with grenache predominating. The reds are generous and full-bodied, with aromas of red fruit, spices and garrigue. The whites, although in the minority, stand out for their freshness and floral notes. Each bottle reflects the harmony between tradition and innovation, making these wines liquid works of art.
